Birdman’s Brother 'Gangsta' Files Lawsuit Over ‘Inhumane’ Prison Living Conditions

The incarcerated brother 'Gangsta' of Cash Money Records CEO Bryan “Birdman” Williams has filed a lawsuit against the Federal Bureau of Prisons and Warden Anthony Haynes.

Terrance “Gansgta” Williams is currently being held at the Jesup Federal Correctional Institution in Southeast Georgia, where he has filed a lawsuit against the Feederal Bureau of Prisons. Williams is making accusations that the living conditions in the prison are so grave and inhumane that it “violates contemporary standards of decency” to expose anyone unwilling to such a risk.

Officials have admitted to overcrowding at the prison which in 2000, had a population of 300 inmates, now has a population of over 1,500 inmates. According to Williams, the cells are being packed with three people to a cell that is designed for single occupancy. In his own words the cells are “reminiscent of the days when slaves were packed like sardines”.

Although possessing the statutory authority to improve the prisons overcrowded conditions, according to Williams, officials have taken steps to prevent a speedier release. In some instances, the prison allegedly has prevented prisoners from participating in well needed drug treatment programs due to firearm possession or a prior history of violence. Although a “Direct consequences of drug use” class and treatment are ordered by the court, they are more often than not denied participation. When participation is granted, they are said to be denied the full one-year off.

Despite budget woes and statutory provisions for deporting criminal aliens, prior to completion of a term of imprisonment with increased penalties if they should return, they are kept for the maximum duration of their sentences – with no benefit to the tax payer, who is charged with providing security, education, rehabilitation and medication.

The supreme court has recently declared California’s prison overcrowding to be unconstitutional. Williams has been serving a life-time sentence since 1998 for continuing criminal enterprise and solicitation for murder.
