Stash Money: Lawsuits by the Pound (Lil Wayne & Turk vs. Cash Money Records)
If you’re 26 or older, chances are you know
a thing or two about the golden days of Cash Money Records. Back from 1997-2001
Cash Money’s main focus was around Hot Boys’ members, Juvenile and B.G., but
you can’t forget the Big Tymers as well. The youngest of the Cash Money
Millionaires was Young Turk & Lil Wayne. Both artists had each released
solo albums by 2001. Wayne with two ( Tha Block is Hot, Lights Out) and Turk with one (Young n Thuggin).
Fame
and fortune blessed the rising hip hop label in a major way and then came the
original lawsuits and departures from Cash Money. In the fall of 2001 Juvenile
and B.G. had fled the label to build their own dynasties and suit their former
label. It took Turk a couple more months but by early 2002 he left as well.
When
the dust finally settled at Cash Money, all that was left of the super group
was Lil Wayne, Mannie Fresh & Baby with Slim behind the scenes. It’s no
secret that as of today in early 2015 it seems as if all that was meant to
stand is the Williams brothers. Both of the brothers are well known for being
the co-founders and co-CEO’s of the very successful label.
When Wayne went to Twitter to dispel is utter distain and anger over the delays of
his new album, Tha Carter V, back in early December. That is when the Internet
broke, especially in the Hip Hop community. By mid-January photo’s had surface
of the 21-page document of the lawsuit and exactly why he is suiting hiscurrent label for 51 million. That being said, Wayne is in no way on speaking
terms with Baby according to recent reports.
The
Turk situation on the other hands is less publicized but well documented in the
same respect. He is suing his former label, for 1.3 million, of the same thing
that initially pushed Juvenile away, as well as, B.G. too. He is suiting over
royalties and believes he wasn’t receiving his owed cash in general due to
shaky circumstances. Either way is it similar to Wayne case.
Everything
is eventually going to come to a close over these suits. Hopefully we
understand better in the coming weeks, months or years ahead if this plays out
well for Wayne and Turk. For any of us long time Cash Money fans this
situation, and all the previous ones, have always had us bummin’. Not matter
what the outcome is we’re fans of the artists more than any other thing. Stay
real ya’ll…Wayne and Turk are.

Breaking News; Juvenile Back to Cash Money Records!
Among all the recent news of in-fighting between members of YMCMB, a new headline has been created bringing a familiar face back into the picture. Recently sitting down with MTV, original Cash Money Records signee and Hot Boy member Juvenile announced that he's back with the label that made him famous.
"It's already done, man. I signed the paperwork a couple days ago," Juvenile said when asked whether he would ever consider signing with Cash Money Records again. "I'm signed back, Rich Gang. I'm about to get my little tattoo and everything. It's all love, I'm back."
He continued and relayed that he will be with the label until he retires from the music industry.
"I'm here to stay, too, for everybody out there. I'm not going anywhere," he said. "I talked about it to [Birdman]. You start where you finish. It's a done deal, people. I'm officially signed back to Cash Money, Rich Gang. It's a big bubble, man". In the second half of MTV's video, Birdman talked about resigning his former artist and says things have changed since his departure years ago.
"Even though we've been through what we've been through, [we're] older now. We was younger then," Birdman said. "We all spoke. [Lil Wayne] did music with him. And I think he's got the right records. I know how focused he is, with his craft. He ain't never lost that... To be working with Juvie again, I'm excited about that because I know what I can bring out him and with the platform I have, he can be bigger than he was before."

Mannie Fresh To Continue Working On Mystikal's Project

Despite leaving Cash Money Records over five years ago, Mannie Fresh is still on board at the helm of Mystikal's CMR debut. This week, New Orleans, Louisiana Hip Hop veteran Mystikal signed a contract to Cash Money Records. The move was controversial to some, as Mystikal was a former star of Cash Money's onetime local rival, No Limit Records. Additionally, the boisterous rapper had been working with former Cash Money star producer and artist Mannie Fresh prior to the signing.
While rumors have swirled that Mannie's longtime seemingly severed ties with Cash Money would prevent the camps from working together, Fresh's spokesperson contacted HipHopDX this morning to confirm the pair wil l continue to work together.
In October, Mannie Fresh admitted to DX that recording sessions with Mystikal were stalled temporarily, but that a project was definitely releasing, "He’s a super talented dude, but you can’t get him to stand still for nothing. So it’s kind of been a hard process with me and Mystikal. But I know it’s gonna happen. And I know he gotta feed his family so he kind of all over the place doing shows. But, you know … it’s gonna happen, that’s all I can tell you."
Fresh and Cash Money parted ways in the mid-'00s after royalty disputes over albums from Lil Wayne, Juvenile, Big Tymers and The Hot Boys. Mannie Fresh was signed to Cash Money for over a decade. Yesterday, Mystikal released his first Cash Money-era music with label co-founder Birdman and Lil Wayne, "Original" .

The Pioneers; PxMxWx (Projects Most Wanted)
PxMxWx was a legendary rap group from the Iberville projects in New Orleans, Louisiana. Stands for Projects' Most Wanted, PxMxWx's "Legalize Pass The Weed" was the one of the first albums that Mannie Fresh worked on after he became Cash Money's inhouse producer. Their line-up was Big Man as the rapper and Big Heavy and Black Jack as the hype men in Cash Money Records.
But what is the story before Cash Money Records?
Dj Razor Cut aka Freak Nasty was one of the first members of the group. Dj Razor Cut started and created this group with Big Man in 1990. From the 9th ward to the 4th ward. He left the group in 1992 and went to Atlanta after the group hooking up with Cash Money Records.
After they signed to Cash Money Records; Dj Indo aka DJ Crack Out aka Mannie Freshh put their skills in the beatz. They were one of the first acts to be signed to Cash Money, releasing two albums during their time at the label: Legalize: Pass Tha Weed in 1993 and High Life in 1994. Before that, they signed to Hardhood Records where PxMxWx and Freak Nasty released their Yellow, Blue & Red tape(s).

The Iberville project, on the edge of both the French Quarter and Treme neighborhoods in downtown New Orleans, was built on the site of the turn-of-the-century red-light district known as Storyville, where prostitution was legal between 1897 and 1917. The development is also bordered by the 200+-year-old St. Louis #1 and #2 cemeteries. Initially intended to house the families of white servicemen, the Iberville was completed in 1940. In 2010, the Iberville was the only remaining original full-size housing development left in New Orleans.
In the words of Big Man to WhereTheyAt this was the first days of the group:
"What happened was BOBBY MARCHAN was a concert promoter back then, before he passed. He was doing a talent show at Flirts across the river. We performed at the talent show. We actually won a talent show. We had just released a tape like two days before the talent show. BOBBY MARCHAN was like, "Man, you all need to come down to my office and let's get some concerts going and get you all booked up." Got with them and then our product was running low. We didn't have a lot of money to put the product out. We were recording the product and putting it on cassette tapes and making our own labels at the same time and putting them out on the street.
At that particular time, BABY and SLIM (Williams brothers) happened to be in the office. They heard about the song. They said, "Man, that is y'all’s?" I said, "Yeah." "We need to get you all on our label. Sign you. Put like 10,000 copies out here right now." So that’s how we got with CASH MONEY RECORDS. We started from right there in that office with Cash Money and just started selling everything from there. They took care of everything for us.

Everybody took that song and was like, "Oh man, you made the drug dealer's anthem with that song." "Really?" I didn't really think it would be the drug dealer's anthem, but the song came out real popular.
Before we heard Dr. Dre and everything, we was the first ones with a weed song that hit big back home in New Orleans. I'm quite sure Dre had come out before - it got to us a little bit later. From there everybody just went off on writing about the weed and everything else. Lady Red and everybody else had they version of the song. "People think we smoke tons of weed. It wasn't like we smoked tons of weed. Every now and then. We just had to make a song about it because that was a hot thing"
